GOSHAWK ON BRUNY ISLAND TASMANIA

This young Goshawk was caught in some netting in Simpsons Bay, Bruny Island Tasmania. Luckily the hawk was easily freed from the netting & after a quick check he was deemed uninjured & set free. There really is some amazing bird life on Bruny Island, it is a popular spot for bird watchers from allover the world. 

WALLABY REHABILITATION ON BRUNY ISLAND TASMANIA

This little motherless Wallaby Joey, was found on Bruny Island & taken to the lovely people at Inala nature museum & jurassic garden. The Joey is being reared in a fabric pouch, which mimics its mothers pouch.

Inala has a long and strong history in wildlife rehabilitation, caring for injured and abandoned animals. Dr Tonia Cochran’s science and farming background has provided her with a wide array of veterinary skills that she uses to care for the diversity of animals brought to Inala’s gates. 

Tonia’s diverse background & passion for Tasmania’s fauna, has resulted in a variety of animals of various species being rehabilitated & released back into the Tasmanian wilderness. The list of rehabilitated species is long and includes a Brown Falcon, Tasmanian Pademelon, Long Nosed Potoroo, Echidna, Little Pygmy Possum, Brush-tailed Possum, Little Penguin, and even Blue-tongued Lizard! CAPE BRUNY LIGHTHOUSE

 I was recently lucky enough to go on a tour of the Cape Bruny Lighthouse on Bruny Island in Southern Tasmania. The view from the top of the lighthouse is panoramic and vast.

Looking out over the handrail on the lighthouse balcony one can see across the D'Entrecasteaux Channel towards the antarctic.

The Lighthouse is built from the dolerite that surrounds it in the cliffs & rocks

I was looking through my backlog of great Bruny Island photos when I came across this old photo of some local cattle herding. Herding cattle along the beach is not an every day sight on Bruny but it has been known to happen over the years.

This photo was most likely taken during the 1950's on the neck beach. What a way to travel.

The scenery is so beautiful on Bruny Island that its hard to point a camera without getting a great photograph. This photo was taken at cape Bruny on south Bruny Island.

              There are a lot of rainbows in the Bruny Island sky's.

Bruny Island is a fantastic part of Tasmania. The approximate dimensions of Bruny Island are about 70 kms by 24 kms at the widest points. There are about 300 kilometres of roads to explore.

THE UNEXPECTED BEAUTY OF BRUNY ISLAND

 This is an incredible view from my mothers garden on Bruny Island. The garden is filled with wild growing flowers & native grasses & overlooks this amazing bay. The variety of scenery & plants on Bruny Island is surprising & lovely.

Here is one of many stunning rock formations that are scattered along the coast of South Bruny Island.

The Breathtaking Bruny Island Lighthouse is one of the oldest in not only Tasmania but Australia also.

This rock sculpture has been slowly built by local Bruny Island folk, over time passers by have added rocks to the piles when they go walking on Grassy point on South Bruny Island.
